Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade ( PGDFT ) 

 

India is a vibrant economy and has kept an ambitious foresight for Global Trade to boost her economy. With the advent of economic liberalization and globalization and further pioneered by various measures of the Government, India is getting recognition in the niche of global economy. Further with the formation and active presence of various governmental, semi-governmental and autonomous bodies in the Global Trade Sector, India although a developing economy is creating milestone despite all challenges. Hence, in the volatile geo-political economic scenario, an in-depth knowledge of international economics, finance, trade relations, institutions and administrative policies and procedures governing them have become order of the day. So there is a greater need for trained professionals in Global Trade.

 

To bridge this gap the Department of Economics under the banner of University of Pune commenced one year course in the name and style of Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade in 1994 to equip young graduates with the tools and techniques to further accelerate and drive India’s share in Global Trade. The diploma is unique in its own context by the virtue of encompassing various subjects that provides both theoretical as well as practical insights on the various aspects of Global Trade. The exclusiveness of the course is that it is an autonomous course conducted by the department, which enables it’s syllabus to be constantly revised and updated to keep it in pace with the changes in the current market scenario.

 

Thus, by inculcating the knowledge of global trade through the professional and paradigm course of PGDFT, the department is poised to create successful professionals for Global Trade and equip them with acumen of crossing the barriers.

PGDFT student's batch has always been a great mixture of fresh graduates and professionals - they all being from various areas such as science, commerce, arts, engineering, management and even law. The batch also contains few experienced professionals with their areas work raging from different business domains and having worked with good corporate brands in India or abroad they form a pool with distinct skillsets..

 

Batch of 2009-10 is a also a 'picture perfect' when it comes to diversity of student profiles. This diversity of cultural and social backgrounds, diversity of professional areas of work - all in all - diversity of thoughts and actions brings a lot of interaction and exchange of ideas amongst students during the training sessions and project work..

 

Not only the students pool is varied but also the faculty has a niche mixture of academicians , researchers and visiting faculty from industry those are having more than a decade of professional experience in various areas of international trade.
