About Pune University
The University of Pune, established in 1948, is one of the finest universities in India with a campus of over 411 acres. It is very often referred to as the Oxford of the East and also recognized by the UGC as a premium center for academic excellence.
It houses more than 40 departments that provide quality education in a wide array of disciplines. It also houses IUCAA (Inter University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics), TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research), C-DAC, which houses the PARAM-10000 Supercomputer, etc.
Recently the university was awarded with the highest rating of “FIVE STAR”, by the NAAC, which is a premier accrediting agency, under the UGC.
Department of Economics
The Department of Economics was established in 1985. From an economy on the brink of disaster in the mid-sixties to an economy with great potential, India University of Pune The Department offers a two year post-graduate course in economics (MA) , one year post-graduate diploma in foreign trade and Ph.D. in Economics and important to mention Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade.
